Optimize Navisworks File Size
Here are some tips to keep that file size under control!
A Navisworks file isn’t designed to keep its size small while also storing a huge number of saved viewpoints. However, generating views to assist the understanding and resolving of clashes is what RV ClashBox is designed to do! To balance these requirements, consider:
✅ Grouping clashes in each test before feeding them to RV ClashBox. Instead of 1 view per clash, the app will generate 1 view for each group of clashes, thus reducing the total number of result views. You can batch-group clashes for free with a copy of BIM Track.
✅ Limiting the scope of each clash test. It’s a good practice anyway to focus each clash test on a particular pair of object types. For example, instead of clashing one building with another and producing thousands of clashes, you can clash only Columns and Doors to reduce the number of reported collisions. Running RV ClashBox on these more granular tests will be much more manageable.
✅ Cleaning saved viewpoints after each clash detection meeting. These views will quickly become outdated as the BIM model progresses, so deleting them will restore your file size to its optimal value. When the next coordination meeting comes, you can simply generate a new set of views for only the clash tests relevant to that meeting.
