Copy element data to rooms/spaces

We added the feature below to RV RoomLink recently. If you don’t see it, please update the app.

Originally, RV RoomLink only copied data of rooms/spaces to elements they contained. Now, the app has become truly bidirectional with the addition of copying element data to rooms/spaces containing those elements.

The configuration for this is similar to “Copy Room/Space Data to Elements”, just in the reverse direction:

First, we need to select the model that contains elements contained by our room/spaces. This can be a Revit link or the active model. Next, we can select:

  • Whether to update rooms or spaces,
  • Which element parameter to copy data from,
  • Which room/space parameter to copy data to

Remember to also select the phases of your required elements and rooms/spaces. If unsure, select the last phase on each list and tick the box for “Include previous phases”. However, watch out if your elements and rooms/spaces change from one phase to another though. If so, try to select phases more precisely, or the room/space detection results may be inaccurate.

Finally, click “Sync Room/Space Data” and let the app do its magic. This can take longer on large models with lots of Revit links.

Once the computation is done, review the modified spaces in the result table.

That’s a pretty long text in this example, because we chose to get all contained elements’ family and type names. If you select another parameter like Type Mark, just make sure the elements have meaningful values under that parameter.

In this example, there are multiple Furniture items inside those spaces. By default, RV RoomLink will concatenate the required values from all these elements and write the combined, single string to the room/space. If you want to turn that off, click Edit on the room/space parameter bridge and untick “Combine values of contained elements”:

Now when we run the update again, each room/space will only get data from the first element it contains:
